Composers
A unique piece of composed music can really add to a show's production values. Paul Boross and his business partner Henry Marsh at MB Productions have composed music on shows as varied as The Simpsons and Blockbusters. "It's our job to interpret what very visual people mean by their music requirements and to understand the emotion that the director wants to convey," he says.

I'm reassured when Boross asks me additional questions about my production, such as what it's being shot on and what tone it's taking. Boross advises that the whole process works much better if composers are approached early on. "For the title sequence it's usually much easier for the editor to cut to our music than for us to fit our music to the graphics. We can do it both ways, but it's cheaper if you approach us early."

MB is willing to do something for me within my budget. Because it's on Five, Boross knows that he will also get a payment from the PRS.

I'm told by Darlow Smithson's Streib that you can negotiate a total buyout deal with composers "They don't like it and charge higher fees, but then the music is yours."

ave frequently employed the talents of Paul Boross and Henry Marsh on major network shows. They are extremely versatile and deliver music that has always perfectly fulfilled the brief."

"I have no hesitation in recommending them as they can compose any type of score from full classical orchestration to jazz or from dance music to rock."

"Whatever appropriate genre the one thing that is certain is that their flair and professionalism will lift the visuals and enhance the programme."

"MB Productions does all the right things - being on-time, on-budget and on-brief - but also does the even better things - going off-brief when they have a great idea, and always ensuring clients expectations are exceded rather than just met."

"MB Productions
actually listens to clients, a simple thing - but rather important - and often forgotten."

"Paul is also very cuddly, although may bite if provoked!"

"Three features stand out in the service you get from MB Productions.

1.The quality of music is in a different class. They get to grips with what is needed ever so quickly and I am always delighted when I hear the result.

2. The team give you lots of options and alternatives to the main themes so you are never short of a piece of music to cover a mood from humour to drama.

3.They know the budget restrictions involved in factual programmes and they are always willing to help out financially as they always see the bigger picture that getting the show delivered is of primary importance.

They are
the best in my view."
